Josko Gvardiol, the Croatian wall

Josko Gvardiol, the young powerhouse defender is a Croatian professional footballer who currently plays as a centre-back for Red Bull Leipzig in the Bundesliga and the Croatian national team. Gvardiol’s world cup performances were immense and he gained a lot of attention as the tournament progressed. He helped the Croatian national team in finishing on the 3rd spot of the World Cup.

Gvardiol began his football career with Dinamo Zagreb which is a Croatian professional football club that is based in Zagreb. He joined the academy at a young age and quickly progressed through the ranks and made his professional debut for the first team in 2020, at just 18 years old. Gvardiol's monumental performances for Dinamo Zagreb earned him a call-up to the Croatian national team in 2021, and he made his international debut that same year.

Gvardiol's breakthrough performance came in the 2022 World Cup, where he played a key role in the Croatian national team's run to the semi-finals. He was praised for his calm and composed defending, as well as his ability to bring the ball out of defence and start attacks. Gvardiol's standout performance in the tournament earned him a place in the World Cup's All-Star Team. His only goal for the team came in the last match of the tournament where they faced Morocco for the 3rd spot finish. Croatia won the game 2-1, thanks to the opening goal from Gvardiol.

At the young age of only 20 years old, Gvardiol’s ability to read the game well certainly helps the team he’s playing for as it gives him the ability to control the game while also sitting back in the defence. His physical presence doesn’t only help in defence but also makes him a real threat in set-pieces. His sole goal during the tournament came from a corner itself.

Gvardiol's performances in the World Cup have not gone unnoticed, and he has been linked with a move to several top European clubs. It is rumoured that he could be on the radar of clubs such as Chelsea, Real Madrid and other top European clubs who are said to be interested in acquiring his services as the winter transfer window has been opened. No major reports connecting him to any clubs are out right now but many clubs will definitely be looking out for him.

Despite his young age, Gvardiol already has a wealth of experience at the top level, and he has proven that he has the ability to perform on the biggest stage. He is strong and a physical centre-back, but he also has excellent technical ability and can play out from the back. Being a vocal leader on the pitch he doesn’t only has potential to be one of the best centre-backs but also a great captain.

It is uncertain what the future holds for Gvardiol, but one thing is for sure: he is a player to watch out for. Whether he decides to stay at RB Leipzig or make a move to one of Europe's top clubs, Gvardiol has the potential to become a household name in the world of football. He has already achieved a lot in his young career, and it will be interesting to see how he continues to develop and progress in the coming years.
