Enzo Fernandez, Argentina's Starboy
Enzo Fernandez is the young Argentinian Talent who plays for Benfica in the Liga Portugal as a Central Midfielder. Enzo also represented Argentina on a national level in the World Cup. His debut for the national team came on September 24, 2022, in an international friendly against Honduras.
Fernandez's football career kicked off in his home country of Argentina with the second team of River Plate. He eventually made his way to the first time of River Plate and ended up winning an Argentina Cup with the club as well.
Earning a transfer to Benfica in the last summer transfer window, he showed his class
holding the midfield together. Lionel Scaloni was heavily impressed with his performances,
Enzo soon got his first team Argentina debut. He went on to become an integral
part of the Argentina squad in the World Cup holding the whole team together
from the heart of the midfield.
His
breakthrough performances came during the World Cup where he really showed what
he’s capable of. Helping Argentina win the World Cup after 36 years. He won the
Young Player of the Tournament award and scored a screaming goal against Mexico in the Group
Stages. Enzo was an integral part of the team throughout the tournament.
The 21-year-old is a great passer of the ball and makes moving the ball around the pitch look easy. Playing from the middle of the field, he can dictate the pace of the game. He can play as a Central Midfielder or a holding midfielder. Enzo's main attacking prowess would be his long range shots from outside the box as we saw in the World Cup. His shot power and placement is very lethal which makes him capable of scoring a goal if he gets the ball at a suitable shooting range. Accurate long passes are also one of his specialties.
He has attracted the interest from a lot of top European clubs after his performances at the World Cup and a winter transfer to another looks very likely. Chelsea having shown notable interest in Fernandez but his asking price being more than 100 million euros have posed hurdles in the completion of the transfer. Liverpool is also one of the
clubs that has shown interest in the player. Newcastle, PSG and Real Madrid are also some of the clubs interested in Enzo as Chelsea deal seems to be collapsing. Regardless of where he ends up after the winter transfer window, it is sure that a player like him will have a successful future ahead of him and he will be a talent to look forward to by the whole football world
